from Landfall in Atuona by Doris!

If you’re like me and you like any boat ride - ferries, kayaks, houseboats (see yesterday’s posting), partyboats, motorboats etc., take a look at Doris! sailing trip journal, Sailing Trip to Tahiti. Doris! describes the ultimate sailing adventure - a 6 week trip from San Francisco to Tahiti. In her journal entries, Doris provides plenty of information on sailing and the history of French Polynesia, plus great photos and stories.

Here’s Doris! story of some neighbors she met along the way:

“The next morning we heard unusual splashing sounds. There was a school of dolphins making its rounds through the bay, exuberantly jumping straight into the air, pulling off a couple of twists and turns before they smashed back into the water. It was just pure joy to watch them!

Of course we wanted to swim with the dolphins… So we jumped into the dinghy, started its engine and drove up to them. Everytime we got close enough to turn off the engine and jump into the water, they deep-dived away though only to re-appear somewhere else in the bay shortly thereafter. They must have had their fun fooling around with us, we only gave up after a dozen or so attempts!” (more…)
