Travel Photo of the Day: Idyllic Tavewa, A Fijian Jewel

written by Carrie Katz

From Under Water Love by Andrewdp

Sometimes adventure can be found in the most relaxing of settings. But forget the proverbial items you’ll need when stranded on this tropical island, for Northern Fiji’s Tavewa offers travelers all the comforts with plenty of fun activities as well. Just 45 miles from the mainland, Tavewa is an idyllic getaway with some of the world’s best diving.

From relaxing in a hammock to playing ping pong on the beach, Andrewdp found love under the water in his recent trip to Fiji. Here is an excerpt from his journal:

“It’s quite breathtaking under the water with all the coral. The water in fiji is teeming with fish like vibrant clownfish and little neon blue fish and tons of others…I just found that the whole thing so relaxing and serene that at that point I knew it was something I’d take the time to do through out my life.” (more…)

The Hallgrens in Nananu-i-Ru Island

Divers and snorkelers interested in seeing a colorful, vast array of sea life and coral formations ought to make a visit to Nananu-i-Ra Island in Fiji. RealTravel members, The Hallgrens, recently dove into the island’s sparkling waters and swam with rainbow fish, clown fish, and even sharks:

“We completed five dives just off the coast of Nananu. Of all of the places we have dove, this is among the very best. Countless types of butterfly and rainbow parrot fish pick at the coral that lay beneath us. And speaking of coral, Fiji is at the very apex for soft coral formations. There is no close second. Every color in the spectrum is represented and it puts your visual senses on overload. On one of our dives, we ran into a school of reef sharks. Their grace in elegance in the water reaffirm why they are the kings of the massive oceans.” (more…)
