Come and visit Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a unique destination with something for the whole family! With tons of attractions for the kids, your days will be action-packed! So escape the bright lights of the city and come see what Pennsylvania’s Dutch Country is all about!

A trip to Lancaster would not be complete without taking the kids to the Choo Choo Barn Traintown U.S.A. With 22 trains to ride and 150 mechanical figures, your kids will be captivated from beginning to end! Do your children need a place to run and play? Take them to Cherry Crest Adventure Farm. Here, you will find a 5 acre corn maze—you’ve never seen anything like this before! Best of all, the town of Hershey is only a 40 minute drive away! The kids and chocolate lovers alike will take delight in a tour of the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory.

Also, learn about the Amish neighbors of this community at the Mennonite Information Center and be sure to go to Lancaster County’s farmer’s market. Visiting downtown? The county’s well-known Mural Trails have been colorfully decorated by artists from all around and display the rich history of Lancaster. Finally, you cannot leave without taking a buggy ride and touring a farm or village, designed to appear as a typical Amish town! A fun yet educational experience, here you and your kids will learn about the Amish lifestyle.

Realtravelers Nathan and Emma describe their attempt at an Amish lifestyle:

“That night for dinner we decided to really soak up the Amish atmosphere and go to a typical Amish family restaurant for dinner. If you don’t know exactly what that involves that’s fine, neither did we! We soon found out that it involved sitting at a long community (family) style table with a bunch of strangers whilst being served dinner, just as if you were at home. Sounds scary? Well it was at first but it actually ended up being pretty fun. We made some new friends…” (more…)

Want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday city life? Are you in need of some relaxation? This week we will explore several destinations that even adventuresome travelers will find invigorating!

Our first stop this week is scenic Vancouver Island. Pack your bags as well as your binoculars, as this island is abundant with wildlife! Make reservations for a whale watching trip—it’s a must! You will be mesmerized as the playful orcas frolic about in the open ocean. Be sure to keep those binoculars handy, as the island is home to over 220 species of birds! With a variety of outdoor activities including horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, and canoeing, Vancouver Island is truly a nature-lover’s dream.

When you take a break from exploring the great outdoors, you may find it relaxing to go wine tasting at one of the Island’s many vineyards. Home to the capital of Victoria, this island is loaded with history and culture galore! Several museums offer insight into the Island’s past. Some well known museums are the Royal BC Museum and the Maritime Museum of British Columbia. If you want a change of scenery, the convenient ferry service can take you on a day trip from Vancouver Island to the neighboring Gulf Islands. With so many sights to see, this laid back location will certainly keep you busy!

Realtraveler Bate’s Big Trip tells of adventures on Vancouver Island:

“We then did a second walk through more rain-forest down to Schooners Bay, at the end of Long Beach. It was a beautiful landscape, through the rain-forest a few km till we burst out onto a beach covered in enormous piles of driftwood, waves crashing on the enormous beach, the ocean full of densely forested islands and snow capped mountains in the background. We stayed here for a few hours, eating a picnic and climbing over the rocks and logs on the almost deserted beach, it was really magical.” (more…)
