Biking Through Rotterdam

written by Teresa Nielsen

Explore the great city of Rotterdam by bike! With well-maintained paths all throughout the city, Rotterdam is the perfect place to cycle. Discover the city at your own pace, as you pedal your way past historic and modern sites! Take a leisurely stroll down The Walk of Fame Starboulevard, or ride over to the nearby Maritiem Museum Rotterdam and Buitenmuseum. Be sure to climb your way to the top of Euromast Tower and take in the gorgeous views of the city. Visitors also stop to admire the Erasmus Bridge, which spans the largest harbor in Europe! After you work up an appetite, stop in at Pannenkoekenboot, or the “Pancake Boat” and savor every bite of those tasty pancakes!

RealTraveler Chad Van Cleve tells of his experience:

“Rotterdam is not at all what we expected. It has lots of green space and there is a huge park with a beach minutes from our home. There are classic windmills, canals and bikes everywhere. The city (and country) has bike paths and a culture of biking that often forces motor vehicles to yield to bikes. The bike roads take you all over the city as well as the country” (more…)

RealTravelers Jason and Guy share:

“With helpful local maps and recommendations it took us only a few minutes to orient ourselves and head off to the Boimans Museum, the leading local art institution and repository of a sweeping at collection spanning the whole of modern Europe’s history…We cannot recommend the Boimans highly enough, for its collection dating to the 13th century, through today - including thoughfully curated collections of modern commercial goods and objects, models for toasters that never were. Strange installations, a huge manufactured East German pottery exhibition, and a great selection of contemporary art. I even saw the real Franz Marc “The Lamb” which I had as a poster in college” (more…)
