Confucian Temple in Nanjing

written by Teresa Nielsen

Welcome to Nanjing! Located in southern China, there are plenty of sights to see!

The Confucian Temple is a popular place for tourists to visit. Located near the Qin Huai River, this beautiful temple is a rather historical site. Build in 1034 during the Song Dynasty, the temple severed as a place of worship in honor of Confucius. While there, be sure to stop in Dacheng Hall. Inside you will find some of Nanjing’s main attractions, including the largest figure of Confucius in China! Next, stop by one of China’s greatest imperial tombs, the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum. Named a World Heritage Site, the Mausoleum is a main tourist attraction. Another interesting landmark to visit is the Palace of the Heavenly Kingdom. Known for its immense size and amazing architecture, this palace offers a look into Nanjing’s history.

RealTraveler rachel.p3 shares her abroad experience and a cooking class:

“Our first day in Nanjing we went to the Confucius Temple, which was right across the street from our first hotel. We also went to the Nanjing Massacre Museum and a Broque Museum (a museum about how they made the embroidered silk garments for emperors). While at the Confucius Temple, we ate a 16-course traditional Nanjing meal. Most of the dishes were good, but I absolutely HATED the stinky tofu…The Nanjing Massacre Museum was very moving. I had tears in my eyes at one point while looking through all the pictures and testimonials. I had no idea of this historical event because in U.S. History, during World War Two, the atrocities that we hear about are those of the Holocaust taking place in Germany. The Broque Museum was interesting–We got to see some workers making the silk embroideries in a traditional manner. In an 8 hour workday they only make 6cm of progress. They gave us a silk dress fashion show, which was fun. May 14 we spent at the Jinling Tourism School for cooking class. They gave us a very warm welcome and we enjoyed cooking corn-shaped fish and three-flavor tofu. ” (more…)
