Be sure to eat healthy breakfast—your day will be busy from beginning to end, as you must visit the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Arlington National Cemetery. Also, give yourself plenty of time, at least a full afternoon to visit the Smithsonian Institution, home to 19 museums including the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the National Zoo. From patriots to pandas, this Institution offers a plethora of museums to visit and will have your mind immersed in a world of new knowledge! Prepare yourself to be moved as you enter the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, which has had over 25 million visitors since its 1993 dedication.
Feel like enjoying the sunshine? Take a stroll around the Washington Monument or visit the Capitol Building! However, if you plan on taking a guided tour of the Capital, go early! Tickets are distributed every morning at 9am, on a first come, first serve basis. Such a rare and educational opportunity should not be surpassed!
In the blog “Wandering in Washington” Flying Kiwi writes:
“Next we headed into the city to check out the Internation Spy Museum. It was so great, full of great gadgets which are real but you´d swear they only exist in movies. They also had a Bond car which was fun, and loads of other stuff which we ran out of time to see.
We walked to Chinatown for a great dinner at a Spanish tapas place.
In the morning I took the subway into town and took a hop-on-hop-off bus around the National Mall area. Be warned - this was a big day!
First stop was the Washington Monument, which is really huge actually. There was no tickets left to go up to the top, but it was pretty amazing just being up close. Next stop Jefferson Memorial, lovely view of the White House and the Lincoln across the water.
Next up - in the rain - was the Roosevelt Memorial, which is quite different to the others, all spread out and really just a series of water features, sculptures and quotes. I liked it a lot.” (more…)
With so much to see and do, even the kids will enjoy this educational and extraordinary experience!
