Artistic Inspiration in Giverny, France

The Eiffel Girls in Giverny

If you enjoy imagining the life and times of legendary authors, painters, or musicians, taking tours of their homes and gardens might make for a wonderful vacation. You could see where Jane Austen wrote some of her best works at the Jane Austen House and Museum in Hampshire, England, or you could visit Valparaiso, the charming seaside town where Chilean poet Pablo Neruda once lived. If you’re a music fan, head to Salzburg, home of the Mozart House and Museum, or see where Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany.

RealTravelers The Eiffel Girls were recently inspired by their visit to Impressionist painter Claude Monet’s house and gardens, located in Giverny, France. Monet fashioned the beautiful gardens himself, and they became the inspiration for his famous series of waterlily paintings. Here’s what The Eiffel Girls have to say about their experience here:

“A short walk through a tunnel under the road led us to the amazing garden that he created just so that he could paint his favorite flowers, the waterlily, over and over. We could see why he would be inspired to paint this landscape in every direction that you could turn. At each different angle you could see different things in the garden and see the waterlilies in different light. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of all of these different views.

The girls felt inspired to create their own pictures when they saw the bridge and the waterlilies. They sat on a bench and drew just as Monet did many years ago.” (more…)
