Traveling in Costa Rica with Kids

written by Jenica Szymanski

La Fortuna to San Jose by ddbartley

Looking for a sunny and adventurous location to travel with young kids? Costa Rica may be just the destination - wildlife, great beaches, volcanoes, and rainforest tours are sure to entertain and thrill the whole family. In December, RealTraveler ddbartley spent a week in Costa Rica with family and friends, exploring Monteverde, Manuel Antonio National Park, and La Fortuna for a hike and swim near the waterfall:

“The plan for this morning was to drive to the La Fortuna waterfall and hike in. We headed out around 9am since the waterfall is only a short ways from town. We paid $6 US each for entrance. The hike down is rather steep and a bit tricky with 2 and 3 year olds but by now they are seasoned hikers and take it in stride. It took about 30 min to get down to the huge waterfall. Really very beautiful. The kids played around in the area where you can wade in the water before we headed back up. There is another very big waterfall across the stream but we didn’t venture over to that side. It took around 50 minutes to hike back up. The kids did rather well considering one section rivaled the Hillary Step on Everest minus the altitude.” (more…)
