Winding through the Autonymous Region of Tibet over passes like Gyatso La and Rang La where gorgeous views of valleys may be seen below, RealTravelers JTDY headed toward majestic Mt. Everest which is the world’s highest mountain peak. Its Tibetan name is Chomolangma, writes JTDY, which means Mother Goddess of the Universe. JTDY stayed at a base camp in Tingri from which a stunning view of the mountain could be seen. The travelers filmed a glorious sun as it set with warm colors over the mountain’s peak. During their travels, JTDY also got to see traditional Tibetan villages and the historic monastery in Rongbuk.
Here’s a passage from their journal, Lhatse to Tingri (Dhingri) incl. side trip to Everest Base Camp, Tibet:
“This part of the journey took us through some very authentic Tibetan villages before the road began a long climb up what could only be called a scree slope. Backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, ever upwards, still on very dusty roads until we finally reached Rongbuk. This was our destination, a place with some basic accommodation and only about 8km from the base camp on the Tibetan side of the mountain Chomolangma.
Rongbuk consists of a monastery and compound. This monastery once had 8 sub-monasteries including a nunnery. It was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Gradually it is being restored but still lamas and nuns must share the same building.” (more…)
