Adapting and Learning in Beautiful Ghana

From Weekend in Koforidua by RyanandKendra
Ryan and Kendra are a couple of young RealTravel members who are blogging about their inspiring work as volunteers in Ghana, Africa where they are helping educate the local community on issues such as HIV/AIDS education and prevention. Recently, they helped other volunteers give a presentation in Zuta which included song, dance, artwork, and lots of enthusiastic participation from the local school children and villagers. Ryan and Kendra are living with a host family in Ghana consisting of a mother and her five children who are also hosting five other volunteers. Ryan and Kendra say they’ve been made to feel very welcome and are putting their energies toward “adapting and learning” about the new culture they’re now immersed in.
On the weekends, the volunteers are free to explore other areas of Ghana, and last weekend they visited the beautiful town of Koforidua where they enjoyed scenic hikes through rainforest and the spray of splendid waterfalls. Here’s a bit about that trip from Ryan and Kendra’s journal, Weekend in Koforidua:
“The town of K’dua itself is beautiful - much bigger and more organized than Akatsi, and it is surrounded by hills/mountains that are blanketed in thick rainforest and crops of corn and cassava. The people were just as friendly as any we’ve met in Ghana, always offering help and directions or asking for your address (a common thing here, and people tell us it’s just for interest’ sake but who knows - maybe we are actually going to get a bunch of letters when we get home!!).” (more…)
